Virtual Dog Training

We also offer convenient virtual dog training sessions. With virtual training, the trainer and client meet via video chat. Based on our initial consultation, I will coach you and your dog through easy-to-follow training instructions designed to meet your dog training goals. After each online dog training session, you’ll receive a short summary including resources and next steps to practice with your pup. Online dog training is flexible, and you can achieve the same results as with in-person training.

Initial Consultation

Receive an at-home, one-on-one appointment addressing your specific dog training goals. Together, we’ll start implementing a solution custom-tailored for you and your dog! Session is approximately two hours.

Follow-up Training

After your initial consultation, get ongoing support and guidance as you reach your dog training goals! Get individualized coaching in your own home (or other preferred location), either in-person or remotely. Day training also available–your dog receives one-on-one training directly with me while you’re busy working, studying, running errands, or otherwise doing what needs to be done! Sessions are approximately one hour.

Non-refundable payment collected at time of booking; no-show appointments and cancellations less than 48 hours in advance will result in loss of training credit. Prices subject to change without notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your dog training philosophy? Positive reinforcement is a key part of my modern training approach, and it’s a highly effective way to teach dogs. Positive reinforcement means giving your dog something they want right after they perform a requested behavior so they’re likely to do that behavior again (happily!). For example, you ask the dog to sit, the dog sits, and you give them a treat–or let them out in the backyard. You might also have heard the terms fear-free (or force-free) training and clicker training; trainer Karen DiCostanzo is certified in both these techniques.

What is your service area? Matters of the Canine Kind is located in Lenexa, Kansas and provides dog training services throughout Johnson County, Kansas. In-home training makes it easy for you and we can even work with your pupper while you’re busy working, studying, running errands, or traveling.

“Karen is simply GREAT. She’s professional, extremely knowledgeable, and easy to work with. She is very passionate about creating strong human/canine connections. After using another trainer and not seeing progress, we were fortunate to find Karen. She has really helped my fearful, aggressive puppy. The most important quality about Karen is her hands on approach. She is always there for you. I strongly recommend her!”

Nancy Bryant

“Our experience with Karen has been great! She is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. I appreciate greatly her communication both in person and with follow up questions via text or email. Her training techniques are very different from what we have experienced with other trainers we have worked with, and our dogs are responding very well to everything she has recommended. I would highly recommend Karen!”

Terri Hatch

“Karen is an amazingly patient teacher who will help you understand and learn how to read your dog. I have a rescue pup who has extreme separation anxiety and a history of fear-biting/inappropriate herding. Karen came to my home for some intensive behavioral consultation and worked with both my dog and me. She gave me lots of great resources and checked in regularly to see how we were doing. I cannot recommend Karen highly enough–she is gentle, patient, and willing to work with you on your schedule. If you are looking for a positive, educated, and patient behavior consultant, Karen DiCostanzo is the one for you and your pup.”
